Chloe Resort 2017 for Nordstrom
He has, by turns, represented tragic romance, displaced melancholia, the lonely artist and a sort of lost, uncertain everyman. Pierrot, the sad clown, was a fixture of French pantomime and theater beginning in the late 1600s—and then again of the fall 2016 runways in London and Paris.
Bringing in ruffled collars, exaggerated bows and pajama-like silhouettes, designers gave Pierrot a new lease on life, albeit one the expressive archetype is bound to be at least a little familiar with. Adding layers of sheer intrigue, of-the-moment color and girly, gothic glamour, the look is as tender and poetic as ever, but now it's got an air of opulence and grandeur, too.
Call it an upgrade—or consider simply that Pierrot had a night on the town, and really, really liked it.
